Samsung unveils a foldable device with a surprise announcement at the Oscars
The world's largest smartphone maker Samsung Electronics unveiled a new square shape foldable phone during a surprising TV commercial broadcast at the Academy Awards Sunday evening.
The announcement, which was broadcast in the United States only came two days before the detection of the Galaxy Z Flip phones that open and close vertically like a folded phone, during an event in San Francisco.
Although there were many shots of the phones, which appeared at least in two colors, purple and black, there were no other details available.
But the phones are expected to be cheaper than the "Galaxy Fold" phone, which is sold for $ 1980 and opens like a book, and was launched last September after being delayed for several months due to screen problems.
Tom Kang, an analyst at Counterpoint Research, said:
"The new Galaxy Z Flip flip phone will have a major impact on the Samsung brand and better help it compete with expensive Apple phones," according to Reuters.
He added that Samsung has taken the lead in the field of foldable phones at a time when competing Chinese companies are poised to enter the emerging market.
